Allan grew up in Polk, NE and shared with his family many fond memories and stories of his childhood. After high school graduation, Allan was drafted to the Army on February 14, 1968, during which time he served in the Vietnam War as a radio repairman. He completed his active duty on September 18, 1969. Allan attended Kearney State College, graduating in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. He later achieved a master’s degree in school psychology. In 2010, Allan retired after dedicating 40 years to his profession as a School Psychologist with the Grand Island Public Schools.
Allan and Nannette (Denney) met at a mutual friend’s wedding and were united in marriage at the New England Congregational Church in Stanton, NE on December 19, 1970. They shared a loving and devoted marriage of 54 years. Allan and Nannette made Grand Island, NE their home and raised three children: Katharine (Katie), Susan and Andrew. Allan’s greatest joy was his family! He lived life to the fullest, spending his free time golfing, fishing, manicuring his yard and tinkering in his woodshop. Allan’s granddaughters were the light of his life, always greeting them with “hello gorgeous” or “hello beautiful!”
Allan and Nannette were lifelong members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Grand Island where he served as an usher, on the Church council, as a communion deacon, as well as many other roles. He was a volunteer for the Nebraska State Fair, served on committees with Goodwill Industries of NE and the Arc of Nebraska, as well as being a regular blood donor. In 2022, Allan and Nannette moved to Lincoln, NE to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Allan’s granddaughters enjoyed frequent visits to their “pops.”
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Nannette; children, Katie (Todd Anderson) Meininger, Susan (Jeff) Kutilek, Andrew (Jessica) Neuhaus; grandchildren, Lauren Meininger, Alaina Meininger, Ella Kutilek, Molly Kutilek, all of Lincoln, NE; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dob (Kay) Neuhaus of Plattsmouth, NE and Randy (Mary Beth) Neuhaus of Loudon, Tennessee; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
Allan is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Lauretta, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and LaVern Denney.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Southwood Lutheran Church (4301 Wilderness Hills Blvd, Lincoln, NE 68516). Military honors will follow the service. Family will be greeting guests an hour prior to the service.
