Obituary

Ada (Mullen) Robinson

May 18, 1939 - November 13, 2023

Ada (Mullen) Robinson completed her journey on earth on November 13, 2023, at the age of 84.

Born on May 18, 1939, in Hastings, Nebraska, Ada was the ninth of thirteen children born to Hunter and Helen Mullen. Ada graduated from Hasting High School and went on to receive a BS in Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1974.

She worked as a paraprofessional at Clinton Elementary while she finished college. Upon graduation, she was employed as a teacher at Clinton where she impacted the lives of generations of students, parents, and colleagues throughout her 30+ year career. Following her retirement, in 2006, Ada was a substitute for eight years. In honor of her legacy, LPS opened Ada Robinson Elementary School on August 29, 2022.

In addition to teaching, Ada was a fierce advocate for improving the lives of others, especially youth, outside of the classroom. She tutored children in her neighborhood, was an Eastern Star, and served on numerous boards and civic groups, including, but not limited to, Girl Scouts, Kiwanis, WICs Home for Girls, Cedar’s Northbridge, National Council of Negro Women, Lancaster County Commission on Women, Malone Community Center, and Malone Manner. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors for her service to children, families, and community.

Ada’s greatest passion was her family. She married Marion “Rob” Robinson on March 5, 1965, and together they raised two children, and unconditionally spoiled their granddaughter. Ada’s favorite holidays were Christmas, because she loved spending time, sharing food and fun with family, and she got such joy from giving to others; and the 4th of July, because, again, she enjoyed the time with family and friends, and she really enjoyed blowing things up.

Ada was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Hunter Mullen; son, Victor Mullen; husband, Erving Ogelsby; husband, Marion Robinson; and siblings,  Herman, Robert E., Hunter, Rodney, Faye, Helen, and Simuel Mullen (Kennetha Mosby), Wilda Hill, and Marceline Armstrong. She is survived by her children, Tami Robinson Soper, and Mario Robinson (Pam); granddaughter, Keenan Roberson; siblings, Charles Mullen (Paulette), and Eleanor Shanks, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and kin.

It will bring her happiness to see her friends and family come together to celebrate her beautiful life on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Christ Lincoln Church (4325 Sumner Street); lunch will be provided immediately following the service. A viewing will be held on the evening of Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 4-8 p.m. (Eastern Star ritual at 7 p.m.), at Roper & Sons Mortuary (4300 “O” Street). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Malone Center.

The graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. at Parkview Cemetery (1246 Elm Ave, Hastings, NE), followed by a brief gathering at the DAV Club (302 South Elm Avenue, Hastings, NE).

For those unable to attend in person, the service can be viewed via livestream at:

I was fortunate to have worked with Mario which gave me the opportunity to meet his mom. What a beautiful amazing woman, always with a smile. Always making time to talk. Ada was one in a million and touched SO many people. What an angel! BTW, Ada occasionally made me a cherry cheesecake. Delicious!!!

The loss of Ada Robinson, a cherished friend and esteemed teacher, has left a profound impact on the community of Lincoln. As many have aptly attested, her love and famous embraces were unrivaled. Ada possessed a rare gift of making anyone she encountered feel like one of her own – age or station no obstacle to her genuine warmth and inclusivity. Reflecting on my time at Clinton and the many outstanding educators who impacted my life, Ada stands out as a true paragon of excellence. Alongside her stood an impressive roster, including Mrs. Byron, Mrs. Vaughn, Mrs. Honeycutt, Mrs. Rohla, Mr. McNeil, and Mrs. DeGrazia, all under the watch of Principal Spearman. To Ada’s beloved children, Tami and Mario (my teammate in Small Fry for the green and gold of Bouwens Plumbing), I extend my deepest sympathies and prayers. Your mother’s legacy is one of immeasurable significance and influence – a testament to her unwavering dedication to the betterment of others. May the memories and shared stories of Ada serve as a source of comfort and healing during this difficult time. I am forever indebted to Ada Robinson for the profound impact she made on my life, and the lives of countless others.
