William Eldon Splinter

November 24, 1925 - September 26, 2012

William Eldon Splinter, 86, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, September 26, 2012. Born in North Platte, Nebraska on November 24, 1925 to William and Minnie (Calhoun) Splinter. WWII U. S. Navy Veteran.

Graduate of UNL , Masters and PhD from Michigan State. He was a professor at NC State and returned to UNL to serve as Chairman of Department of Agricultural Engineer, then served as Vice Chancellor for Research. After retirement, returned as Interim Dean for College of Engineering and Technology and also Interim Director at NE State Museum. His professional affiliations include NAE, ASAE, ASABE among others. He was especially fond of Lester Larsen Tractor Museum. He was also honored by UNL, renaming the tractor test lab as Splinter Research Laboratories.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Calhoun Splinter; daughters: Kathryn (Steve) Watkins, Karen (Mike) Kolb; sons: William (Lori) Splinter, Robert (Silvia) Splinter; Elizabeth’s children: Cynthia Brian, Jay (Jill) Calhoun, Joel (Patty) Calhoun, John (Vicki) Calhoun; grandchildren: Wil, Garrett, Alan, Aaron and Allison, Mykayla, Madison, Levi, Evan and Libby. Preceded in death by first wife Eleanor Love Splinter.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 1, 2012 at First Lutheran Church, 1551 South 70th Street with Pastor Lori Kitzing officiating. Prior private interment.

Memorials in lieu of flowers to Grace Lutheran Church Walton, UNL Foundation or Lester Larsen Tractor Museum.

Visitation: 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Sunday with family greeting friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Roper and Sons, 4300 ‘O’ Street and one hour prior to service time.
