Dr. Henry D. Smith

October 5, 1921 - April 24, 2012

Dr. Henry D. Smith, 90, of Lincoln, went peacefully on Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Born October 5, 1921 in Rushford, Minnesota to Francis Marion and Marguerite (Little) Smith. Ret. Physician/State Health Director. Did pre-med studies at Beloit College and graduated University of Illinois Medical School. Member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, past member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, active EFM advocate and instructor. Henry served on many boards including St. Monica’s. Throughout his life he was very community oriented wherever he lived and was very active in his church. He was a devoted husband and father. He loved to travel and play bridge.

Family members include his daughters, sons-in-law: Celia K. Smith, Lincoln, Ellie Smith Graf and Gerald Graf, North Myrtle Beach, SC, Ann Smith Schroeder and Scott Schroeder, Lincoln; son: Alan D. Smith, Hooper, NE; grandchildren, spouses: Benjamin M. and Robin Graf, Raleigh, NC, Kelsey E. and Michael Echerd, Hickory, NC. Jacob P. Graf, Morris, IL, Katie Beth Smith, Chicago, IL, Zachary K. Smith, Papillion, NE, Hannah M. Smith, Spain, Cassie J. Smith, Papillion, NE, Brandon D. Smith and Will N. Bennett, both of Lincoln; great grandson: Hudson Sawyer Graf, Raleigh, NC. With grateful hearts to his loving nurse and devoted friend Mary Morris. Preceded in death by wife Elizabeth “Libby” Smith and brother Alan E. Smith.

Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012 at The Landing at Williamsburg Village, 3500 Faulkner Drive. Inurnment in St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church Columbarium.

Memorials to St. Monica’s, Nebraska Wesleyan University, University of Nebraska Foundation or St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church.

Visitation: 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Roper and Sons, 4300 ‘O’ Street.
