Harm Jurgen Harms, age 92, of Lincoln, died Monday, January 30, 2012. He spent most of his life in southeast Nebraska, born and raised near Adams and living most of his adult life in Beatrice, Lincoln and Waverly. Harm served in the U. S. Army during WWII.
After launching his children into adulthood and retiring from Seal-Rite Windows in Lincoln, Harm and Jaye moved to Waverly where he was able to devote time to his real interests. He loved sports (often listening to one game on the radio while watching another on TV). This interest in sports gave him an opportunity to pursue an interest in traveling by going to Husker bowl games, as well as traveling the globe. Dancing was on the agenda for many a Saturday night at one of the local ballrooms. Harm was a Jack-of-all-trades, helping out friends, family and neighbors with repairs, building and fixing almost any kind of machine. Gardening dominated his summers in Waverly, but he had plenty of time and energy to devote to the Waverly VFW and Peace Lutheran Church. Family was important to Harm. He married Jadetta (Jaye) Wolken in 1945 and they spent the next 66 plus years together.
He was loved and respected by his children: Merrily and Jerry Nicholls (Lincoln), Paul and Eileen Harms (Paso Robles, CA), Suzanne and David Laird (Spokane, WA), and Mark and Sherry Harms (Scottsdale, AZ); grandchildren are Benjamin, Andrew and Jeremy Nicholls, Penny Nicholls Jackson, Mary Ann Harms and Leigh Ann Harms Hilliard, Christina and Scott Dittmer, and Anna Harms Beach. He has 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Edna Brethouwer, and brothers, Jerry, Bill, Eddie, Louie and Bob Harms. He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
