Evelyn Elaine (Cunningham) Young, 77, of Lincoln, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2008.
She was born July 6, 1930 in Palmer to Clarence Clifford and Robertha Pearle (Adamson) Cunningham. She grew up in Arnold and was a 1947 graduate of Arnold High School, and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University, member of Delta Zeta sorority.
On Dec. 19, 1948, she was married to Richard Hardin Young of Alliance. To this union, five daughters were born.
She was blessed with a beautiful soprano voice and sang at funerals since in high school, as well as many weddings. She sang the soprano solos from Handel’s “Messiah.”
She taught voice and piano lessons while they made their home in Fort Lupton, Colo., and Lexington, before moving to Lincoln in 1969. Evelyn spent many hours sharing her love of genealogy by teaching classes and volunteering at the Nebraska State Historical Society. She was co-founder and past president of The Nebraskans of Irish/Scotch-Irish Ancestry, and a member of the Lincoln Lancaster County Genealogical Society and the Nebraska State Historical Society. She was a member of Saint-Paul United Methodist Church in Lincoln. More than anything, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and G’ma to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband; daughters and sons-in-law, Kendra and Ken Hartwig of Lincoln, Cyndi and Bruce Fagot of York, Janet and Tim Sorensen of Elmwood, Tara and Jeff Gottula of Lincoln, Paula and Steve Kovar of Lincoln; grandchildren, Brendelyn Beck, Meghan Frickle, Erin Sandquist, Andrew Hartwig, Jeremy Fagot, Rebecca Huls, Benjamin Fagot, Rachel Chavanu, Scott Sorensen, Eric Sorensen, Kristin Sorensen, Sara Sorensen, Christian Gates, Kelly Gates, Aubrey Young and Ashley Taylor; 16 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Marilyn Cunningham of Loveland, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Cory A. Mohler.
A memorial service was held at 11 a. m. on Monday, March 24, at Saint Paul United Methodist Church. Pastor David Lux officiated.

There was no visitation due to cremation.
