Obituary

Gregg Wiegert

December 16, 1963 - November 8, 2025

Gregg Eugene Wiegert, 61, of Lincoln passed away November 8, 2025.  Born December 16, 1963, in Lincoln, NE to Wayne and Audrey (Ritter) Wiegert.

Gregg graduated from Lincoln East High School and worked as an executive chef at Legacy Estates.  Gregg was named after the Gregg Shorthand Manual, which was used at the Lincoln School of Commerce, where his dad was president.  He was the youngest of four children with 2 brothers and a sister.  Gregg spent several seasons working at Shay Stadium for the NY Mets and continued at Citifield, the new NY Mets stadium.  He also worked during baseball season in Washington DC at the Washington Nationals stadium and spent a summer working at a resort in Denali Park, Alaska.  Gregg drove his old Jeep from Lincoln to Denali, Alaska, by himself.

Gregg cared about people and was always willing to lend a hand when he was needed.  It seemed that no project was too big or small for me to tackle.  He liked to “tinker” with computers, and later in life, he really got into bicycles and could be seen riding his bike around Lincoln.  The thing Gregg loved most in the world was big family gatherings.  As a chef, he liked to cook for family and friends and spend time with them, catching up.  Gregg’s father died at a young age, which instilled the importance of family to him.

He is survived by his sister Cletia Price (Bill) and brother Mike Wiegert (Linda), all of Lincoln; nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Scott, and stepfather Lt. Col. Robert Sherman.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 2-4 pm Sunday, December 7, 2025, Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive.  Memorials to the Food Bank of Lincoln, 1221 Kingbird Rd., Lincoln, NE 68521
