Obituary

Sean M. Lingard

March 14, 1967 - October 28, 2025

Sean McCartin Lingard, 58, passed away October 28, 2025. He was the eldest son of Larry and Judith (Reddy) Lingard.  Sean was born on March 14, 1967 in Pawnee City, NE and life would take him on many adventures to West Virginia, Iowa and Illinois before his family returned to Nebraska and made their home in Lincoln. After graduating from Lincoln High School, Sean worked more than 30 years for multiple area service agencies for people with developmental disabilities.

Sean was quickly embraced by his many communities and he didn’t know a stranger. He enjoyed music, movies, classic TV and dining out and grocery shopping with his mother Judy, who was his caretaker until her passing. He was adopted by the staff at the Russ’s Market on 33rd and Highway 2 to organize the shelves while Judy shopped and was paid in donuts by staff who would become dear friends. He also loved farmers markets and attending weekly services at South Gate United Methodist Church where he enjoyed greeting other parishioners and singing with great enthusiasm.

Sean was a vivid storyteller and charmed his way into any conversation by famously saying, “guess what?” As an avid Husker fan, one of his favorite stories was about meeting Coach Osborne who was quickly promoted to the good friend list. He loved traveling with his Mom and brother Rick and delighted in asking any wait staff for his “usual” whether they knew him or not. He also had a profound sense of direction and was infamous for embarking on solo adventures, but always found his way back home.

Sean loved his nieces and was always proud to introduce them to anyone. He valued family above all else and was quick to make friends wherever he went. In his later years, Sean was well loved by special caretakers who welcomed him into their home. Deepest gratitude to Michaela, Merci and Sheena and their family.

Sean is survived by his sister, Lynnette (Robert) Gentry and brother, Rick (Jill) Lingard, all of Lincoln; nieces, Brittany Heins, of Omaha, Kathryn Clark and Haley Clark, of Lincoln. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Richard Lingard, Jeanette (Charles) Hanson and Anthony and Loretta Reddy.

For all who loved him and those who had the pleasure of knowing him, we invite you take the time to tell a good story or sing loudly in his honor.

A Memorial Services will be held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at Metcalf Funeral Home, 245 N. 27th Street, Lincoln, NE.

When we were all kids he was always smiling, he loved singing and was friends with all of us. Anytime we came to visit everyone on Potter Street he was the first to welcome us and had an interesting story to tell us. I haven’t see Sean in a long time but I smile every time I think of him and all us kids. So sorry for your loss he obviously continued to make an impact on everyone he met. Keeping you guys in our thoughts and prayers ♥️🙏

One of many great memories of Sean is at my Mother’s graveside service in Lincoln, which Sean and Judy attended. When we arrived at the site, there were carpet-covered chairs sitting there by the grave and I was the only one who sat in them. During the pastor’s words Sean leaned over behind me and whispered, “Dale…Dale…Dale, I have to tell you something. You’re covered in spiders.” And I was.

I only met Sean one time when he was with Rick and his mother. What I remember most was his beautiful smile and all the joy he had and how he shared it! I am so sorry for your loss.
