Lorene taught Home Economics at Seward High School, NE; the Arkansas School for the Blind in Little Rock, AR; and the Overbrook School for the Blind in Philadelphia, PA. She served as a 4H leader and assisted the Extension Services in both NE and AR. Lorene’s main focus was supporting her Intellectual Developmental Disabled (IDD) son, Martin (Marty). Lorene was active in several groups and committees that promoted the support of IDD persons. Faith was an important part of Lorene’s life. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, actively taking part in committees and ladies Bible Study. She enjoyed traveling with Loyal, and was able to visit many countries and have many adventures.
Lorene is survived by her two daughters: Sonya (Jerry) Honea of Johns Island, SC and Kim Quandt (Peter Tummino) of Wellesley, MA. Lorene and Loyal’s son Marty died in 2008. She is also survived by her grandchildren:
Lauren (Beau) Howe, Lindsay (Elliott) Cole, Rachel Tummino, and Matthew Tummino, and great-grandchildren, Hannah Howe, John Howe, Adam Cole, James Cole, and Audrey Cole. Other survivors are brother-in-law Allen (Carol) Quandt, and sister-in-laws: Marlene Mader, Carol Quandt, and Debra (Paul) Quandt-Smedra; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and special friends.
Lorene was predeceased by her brothers, Leonard Mader and Robert Mader (and his wife Nancy), and her sister Betty (and her husband Wayne) and also bother-in-laws Harland Quandt (and his wife Sylvina), Loren Quandt (and his wife Beverly), Ralph Quandt (and his wife Jeanie), Raymond Quandt, and Geraldine Ault.
Funeral service: 1:00 pm Saturday, June 14, 2025, Redeemer Lutheran Church, 510 South 33rd St. Interment will be 11:00 am Monday, June 16, 2025, Westlawn Cemetery, Grand Island, NE.
Visitation one hour prior to service time at the church.
