Obituary

Sharlyn Sue Porath

November 21, 1946 - February 3, 2025

Sharlyn Sue Porath, 78, of Lincoln passed away February 3, 2025. Born November 21, 1946, in Norfolk, NE to George and Frances (Meyer) Zohner.

Sharlyn served as an administrative assistant for St. John Lutheran School in Battle Creek, Nebraska for many years. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Lincoln.

Shar had a huge heart for her family and extended family – loving to spend time with them.  She loved her time at St. John where she doted on hundreds of her “kids” in the school – spanning some 30+ years.  When it came time for her to be promoted to “Grandma” – she was so delighted.  Her creativity was unmatched as a Grandma – involving the grandkids in picnics, rodeos, ice cream cones, and even a paper boy in training.  Shar was blessed to become a Great Grandmother in the past few years to Gus and Lu, who were near and dear to her heart.  Shar’s legacy of faith and family will be passed on for many generations.

Family members include her husband, Rodney; son Derran Porath, Columbus; daughter Stephanie (Christopher) Kuchar, Lincoln; grandchildren Daniel (Taylor) Kuchar, Omaha and Annika Kuchar, St. Paul, MN; great grandchildren Augustine and Lucia Kuchar, Omaha; brothers Rodney (Arlene) Zohner, Battle Creek and Robert (Judy) Zohner, North Platte; sister Suzanne (Robert) Buckendahl, Battle Creek.

Preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service: 10:30 am Saturday, February 8, 2025, Messiah Lutheran Church, 1800 South 84th St. Interment will be 11:00 am Monday, February 10, 2025, St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Battle Creek, NE.

Visitation one hour prior to service time.

Liebe Sharlyn, thank you very very much fore your lifetime Spirit. I do know that you will be embedded in a fabulos world. Rest in heavenly peace, Dr. med. dent. Werner Koth-Mathon

Rod and family, We are so sorry to hear of Shar’s passing. She was one of the kindest women I know. She was a woman of faith and she showed it in the way she lived. Praying for God’s comfort and peace to you all.

We are so sorry to hear about Sharlyn. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers as you travel through this difficult time. Losing a loved one hurts a lot. Losing a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother is very difficult. We hope, somehow, Sharlyn’s memory will begin to bring a smile to your faces. We love you very much. The memories that stand out for me always travel back to Christmas Eve at Great Grandma Emrich’s house. It was often cold, sometimes icy, but so often crisp fresh snow blanketed the countryside and the chill in the air built a tremendous excitement in all of us. We pray for God to bestow his blessings on Sharlyn and to bring comfort to you and the family. Love,
