He attended Crete Public Schools graduating in 1963. After graduating high school David farmed in Crete, Nebraska for 39 years. He married the love of his life, JoAnn Porter, on March 16, 1968. David and JoAnn were blessed with three children, Susan, Lisa, and Brian. David graduated from Southeast Community College followed by Doane College in 1995. After graduation, David continued farming while managing the parts department with Rod’s Outdoor Power and later with Lincoln Turf and Tractor. He continued his work in parts and sales with Small Engine Specialists until his retirement. His home and family held the first place in his thoughts. David will be remembered for his great sense of humor, story telling, and his strong faith. He was a long standing member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Crete, Nebraska. He was confirmed there on May 17, 1959, which brought great joy to his life. He was welcomed into Messiah Lutheran Church (Lincoln, Nebraska) where he worshiped until his death. He endured Type 1 diabetes for 64 years and was always patient and considerate despite his health condition. A special thank you to Dr. Shannon Wakeley, Dr. Patrick Bertolini, Dr. Elizabeth Carthel, and his entire medical team who provided care for David throughout the years. We also want to thank the Bryan Health medical professionals who provided care for David during his final days. Their kindness and gentleness with David will never be forgotten by his family.
David is survived by his loving wife of 54 years JoAnn (Porter); and his children, Susan (Chris), Lisa, and Brian. He is also survived by his two sisters, Kathyrn and Linda (Gayle), four grandchildren, Nicholas, Jacob, Alex, and Ella, numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins, and other extended family members and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Eloise Currie, grandparents, David and Sophia Schmidt and James and Katherine Currie, brothers-in-law, Jerry Porter and Ryan Roberts, and other cherished family members and friends.
His memorial service will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022, at 10:30 am at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1800 S 84th Street.
