She retired in 1991 from Lincoln Public Schools in food service and was a member of the Saint Paul United Methodist Church.
Virgie’s main goal in life was to show love to her family. Her love for her husband, John was huge. She treasured him and adored him. She took care of his every need. She was his caregiver during his 7-month journey with cancer. We would ask her over and over again if it was becoming too much and she would reply “Kid it really isn’t, I love caring for him, it’s no problem”.
She was a simple woman that just loved the warmth of her home and being with her family. Virgie’s house was the hang out house when her kids were growing up. She loved her home full and busy with chatter and always had a pantry full of food for sharing. She was so interested in getting to know each and every one of them. She loved caring for her children as they were spoiled and never even made a bed or had too many chores! She would give her kids a task and then do it before they could get to it! Be it right or wrong, she just loved making things easy on her kids:).
As the grandkids started to come her life was so fulfilled. She loved each of them deeply and cared for them all. Her best day would be described with one of them waking up in bed with her and spending the day caring for them. She always commented how much she loved being a caretaker. The grandkids adored her. She had a deep and unique relationship with each of them. They grew up cherishing her and honoring her. She was LOVED!!!
Later in life she fulfilled her days at her daughter’s shop. She knew each customer by name, and truly loved visiting with them. We would ask her to refresh us of someone’s name as she always knew! She loved her days at Basket Bunch and later at Cooper and Co. She used to say it was a gift to her to have something so fulfilling to fill her time with. She loved chores around the shop, anything we needed she loved helping with.
Virgie’s outlook on life should be one to admire. She loved the gift of each and every day and always started and ended them with a devotion or scripture reading. She loved the lord and all he gave her. She was an angel on earth.
