Obituary

Floyd E. (Gene) Jones, of Lincoln, NE, died of natural causes on March 20, 2014. Mr. Jones was born in 1922 in Dalhart, TX the son of Ora and Rosa (Meny) Jones (both deceased). He grew up in the panhandle of Texas where he lived, attended school and farmed. He moved to San Diego, CA in order to marry his first wife, Lois Jean Woods. While living in California he was drafted into the Army. Mr. Jones served as an antiaircraft gunner on the Philippine Island of Palawan during WWII. Following his time in the Philippines he was divorced from Lois Jean Woods.

Upon his return to the United States he moved to Wichita, KS where he met and married Iris (Bayne) Jones in 1948. He worked as a machinist until 1953 when he was hired by the Wichita Police Department. He remained with the Department until August of 1975 when he retired at the rank of Sergeant after 22 years of service. Following his retirement he worked for a number of years as the manager of the First Presbyterian Church Camp and then as the church's facilities manager until he retired in 1999. He and his wife Viola moved to Lincoln in 1999 to be near family.

Mr. Jones was divorced from Iris in 1965. Later that year he married Viola Baird Arthur who preceded him in death on November 15th, 2003. His children include Barbara (Bobbi) Jones LaChance of Aubum, Maine; Gary Jones of Lincoln, NE; Teresa Jones Kapzynski of Plainfield, IL; Ruby Jo Arthur Newlon of Lincoln, NE and James Arthur (deceased). He has five children, 13 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren and2 great-great grandchildren.

Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Saturday (3-29-14) Lincoln Berean Church, 6400 S. 70th.

In lieu of flowers the family is suggesting donations to the Wichita Police Benefit Fund, PO Box 47690, Wichita, KS 67201.
